A travel to do list

Lonely Planet recently published an article called "10 Essential stops for Europe first timers".

Basically the list is below, and I just felt like crossing off some of the places where I have been already and recording it.

LONDON - been, and wouldn't mind going back but not going out of my way
PARIS - to do
BARCELONA - done, and still want to go do more
ROME - done, and will go back again one day for Pompeii and more
VIENNA - to do
BUDAPEST - to do
BERLIN - done, and want to move there, but not now
DUBROVNIK - to do
ATHENS - to do, but more keen on the islands
ISTANBUL - to do, but more keen on the beaches

Flemish Hip Hop Opera

Bezette Stad (Occupied City) - KVS: Royal Flemish Theatre

‘A defiant and strikingly sincere performance.’ (**** De Morgen)

Director Ruud Gielens (Singhet ende weset vro) and writer Jeroen Perceval tackle Paul Van Ostaijen’s poetry collection Bezette Stad, the Flemish monument to the period between the wars. Armed with a beatbox and rap –measuring up to Paul Van Ostayen in rhythm and expression– this motley crew creates a contemporary version of these poems, whose main subject is the occupation of Antwerp in WW I. United in a virtuoso interplay of voices, Scale, Pitcho, Karim, Serdi, Ellen and Joost wage battle against the occupation of their cities, against consumption, the flood of advertising, hollow phrases and meaningless one-liners. They want their city back. And they are starting from scratch.

Odette be thy name

So this little lunch "kamer" played a big part of my weekend.

A tantilising and sinful second on the lips, and probably 4 hours on the treadmill because it's definitely going to end up on your hips, the Sticky Toffee cake is da shit.

My piece on unlike.net is here.

Attempt at wiping the karma slate clean

I bought a legit bike off someone who cares (after the bike which I can't confirm or deny was stolen was thrust into the illegal bike trade loop by some calculating mo fo) And then I wrote an article about the nice man's store.

Surely my karma plate is clean now. Surely?

Check out my piece here.

Words and photos by me.

"Mum, Dad, I have something to tell you..."

"I got married today. To two people."

Hah. Not likely, but at least I know I live in the country where these kinds of options are possible.

Passive, Secretive, and Undecidedly distracted

Sometimes it takes the help of fresh eyes to help you understand how beautiful the world you live in really is.

It helps when the eyes you are in the company of belong to some of the most quietly encouraging and creative friends you have.

I showed them a bit of my town when they came for a visit, and it reminded me that time is best spent with easy quietness, exploring behind closed doors, and pleasantly distracting yourself from the responsibilities in your day to day life.

Can't be something that I'm not

I am about to do 2 things I never thought I would ever be doing.
One of these things I will reveal in due time; I'm excited because I feel like all sorts of revelations are making sense for this one thing, and like I was meant to be doing this.

The other one is something that I am not going to reveal, and probably never will (over the internet anyway.)

But - acting on both things means that I am being true to myself and if that's all I can say eventuates out of either of them, I am going to be totally ok with it all.

In a way, doing both things make me completely vulnerable and somewhat stupid.

Stupid? Yes. But I never said I was smart ;)
